Introduction to the QGIS Notebook LM Course

Do you want to work more efficiently with QGIS projects, documentation, and analyses, without needing additional tools or programming knowledge? In the QGIS Notebook LM course, you’ll learn how to combine QGIS with Notebook LM to make your GIS work more efficient, insightful, and well-founded with AI support.

QGIS is a powerful open-source GIS platform for analyzing and visualizing geographic data. In this course, you’ll build on your existing QGIS knowledge and discover how to use Notebook LM as an AI assistant for your own GIS resources, such as manuals, project documentation, datasets, analysis results, and reports. You’ll learn how to have complex QGIS workflows explained, summarize analyses, and structure project knowledge based on your own materials.

Notebook LM works fundamentally differently from a standard chatbot. The AI relies exclusively on documents and sources that you add, ensuring that answers remain contextual, verifiable, and substantively relevant. This makes it particularly well-suited for GIS projects where accuracy, reproducibility, and transparency are essential.

In the QGIS Notebook LM course, you’ll integrate AI directly into your daily GIS workflow. Whether you’re working on spatial analysis, cartography, policy support, research, or data-driven decision-making, you’ll learn how AI can help you gain insights faster, reduce manual work, and deliver better-documented projects.

You’ll work with open-source tools, take the course at your own pace, and develop a future-oriented skill set at the intersection of GIS, knowledge management, and AI. Innovative, yet practical and clearly explained.

Please note! This course requires prior knowledge of QGIS. If you don’t have this yet, we recommend the QGIS Basic Training.

What will you learn in the QGIS Notebook LM course?

In this course, you’ll learn step by step how to effectively use Notebook LM in QGIS projects. You’ll start with the basics: what Notebook LM is, how it differs from generic AI tools, and how to use it safely and purposefully with your own GIS resources.

You’ll then get hands-on experience with:

  • Analyzing and summarizing QGIS manuals and documentation
  • Having GIS analyses and workflows explained and verified
  • Structuring project knowledge, assumptions, and conclusions
  • Supporting reporting and decision-making with AI summaries

In addition, you’ll become familiar with applications such as:

  • Support for complex spatial analyses
  • Knowledge development and transfer within GIS projects
  • Working more efficiently with large volumes of GIS documentation

Through clear explanations and practical examples, you’ll learn how to use AI support critically and effectively, without losing control over your data and analyses.

In short: a practical introduction to AI-supported work with QGIS, with a focus on understanding, structuring, and applying.

Why choose the QGIS Notebook LM course?

This course is unique because it demonstrates how AI adds concrete value to GIS workβ€”without code, scripts, or complex AI models. Where AI often remains abstract, this course shows you how to use Notebook LM directly as an extension of your QGIS knowledge.

Among other things, you’ll learn:

  • What Notebook LM is and why it’s suitable for GIS projects
  • How to use QGIS documentation and datasets as AI sources
  • How to understand and document analyses and workflows more quickly
  • How to use AI to improve justification and reproducibility

The course is designed for self-paced learning, with a strong focus on practical application in real-world GIS scenarios.

Do you want to work more efficiently, gain better insight into complex GIS projects, or be prepared for AI-supported work in geoinformatics? Then this course offers a solid and future-proof foundation.

Who is this course intended for?

This course is intended for GIS users who want to enhance their workflow with AI support. Do you work in land-use planning, the environment, research, policy, cartography, education, or consulting? Then QGIS Notebook LM offers immediate added value.

You don’t need any AI experience, but you do need a basic knowledge of QGIS. The course has a hands-on approach and focuses on working with your own GIS data.

Do you regularly work on complex projects, handle a lot of documentation, or perform recurring analyses, and do you want to make smarter use of your knowledge and insights? If so, QGIS Notebook LM is a logical next step.

Daily Schedule for QGIS Notebook LM

Day 1 – Introduction to AI-Assisted Work with QGIS

On the first day, you’ll lay the foundation for working with Notebook LM within QGIS projects. You’ll learn what Notebook LM is, how it differs from generic AI tools, and why it’s particularly well-suited for GIS applications where reliability and reproducibility are important.Β You’ll get hands-on experience collecting and preparing sources, such as QGIS manuals, project documentation, datasets, and analysis descriptions. You’ll then learn how to use Notebook LM to explain QGIS steps, clarify workflows, and summarize complex analyses based on your own material.Β By the end of the day, you’ll be able to use Notebook LM effectively as an AI assistant to understand and document QGIS work, without losing control over content and context.

Day 2 – In-Depth Study and Application in GIS Projects

On the second day, the focus is on in-depth learning and practical application in realistic GIS scenarios. You’ll learn how to use Notebook LM to structure project knowledge, document assumptions, and support reporting and decision-making.Β You’ll work with examples from spatial analysis, cartography, and policy or research projects, and see how AI can help verify workflows, compare alternatives, and clearly formulate conclusions. The course also focuses on best practices: how do you use AI critically, transparently, and in a reproducible manner within professional GIS projects? By the end of day two, you’ll be able to systematically integrate Notebook LM into your QGIS workflow, allowing you to work more efficiently, document better, and gain faster insights into complex geoinformation.
