Introduction to FME ChatGPT

Geospatial data is key to how we measure, understand, and improve the world around us. From urban development to environmental analysis, geodata provides critical insights. FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) has long been a powerful tool for collecting, transforming, and distributing geographic data. But what happens when you add the power of AI?

In this course, you’ll discover how to combine FME with ChatGPT, one of today’s most advanced AI tools. By integrating generative AI into your data workflows, you can speed up processes, automate repetitive tasks, and make more informed decisions. Think: automatically generating datasets, summarizing long reports, or extracting locations from PDFs — all using natural language.

You’ll get hands-on with powerful FME tools like the OpenAIChatGPTConnector, the Generative AI Reader, and the LeapAIConnector. These make it easy to embed AI functionality directly into your existing workflows, just like adding any other reader or transformer in FME. You’ll learn how to use them to analyze text, extract information, generate AI images, and even write complex code.

A key focus of the course is prompt engineering — how to ask the right questions so you get reliable, useful output from the AI. You’ll learn to write clear, contextual prompts and how to evaluate and apply the AI’s responses in your own work.

Whether you work in government, engineering, or tech — this course will show you how generative AI doesn’t replace your work, it enhances it. By combining FME and ChatGPT, you create space for smarter insights, increased automation, and greater innovation in your geodata workflows.

What you’ll learn in FME ChatGPT

In this course, you’ll learn how to use generative AI in your FME workflows. You’ll get practical experience with smart tools like the OpenAIChatGPTConnector, Generative AI Reader, and PromptTransformer. These connect natural language directly to your data — you write what you need, and the AI delivers.

You’ll develop skills in prompt engineering — crafting clear, targeted instructions for the AI. The better the prompt, the better the result. Whether you’re generating a JSON file, summarizing a document, or extracting data from a PDF, you’ll learn how to automate it efficiently.

You’ll also learn how to automatically generate SQL queries, Python scripts, or regex expressions using natural language. This makes your work faster and more accessible, even if you don’t have a coding background.

Whether you’re working with geographic datasets, generating reports, or analyzing documents — this course will teach you how to build scalable, smart solutions with FME and ChatGPT that you can use right away.

Why choose FME ChatGPT

FME ChatGPT gives you the best of both worlds: powerful data integration through FME and smart automation with generative AI. In this course, you’ll discover how to speed up repetitive tasks, simplify complex analysis, and reach insights faster.

Instead of manually building datasets or writing scripts, you’ll learn how to use ChatGPT to do the heavy lifting — all based on simple, clear prompts. Tools like the OpenAIChatGPTConnector and Generative AI Reader let you embed AI into your FME canvas just like any standard transformer.

What really sets this course apart is its hands-on approach. You’ll dive straight into real-world exercises, experiencing firsthand how AI can improve your own workflows. No dry theory — just practical applications that deliver real value.

You’ll also work with the latest technologies, including GPT-4 and the newest FME features. We’ll show you how to combine these to analyze, enrich, and visualize geodata more effectively.

And with our flexible learning environment, you can work at your own pace and get support when you need it. Whether you’re a seasoned FME user or just starting out, you’ll gain practical tools you can apply right away.

In short: this isn’t just an introduction to AI in FME — it’s a unique learning experience that prepares you and your workflows for the future.

Who is this course for?

This course is for anyone working with geospatial data who’s curious about what generative AI can do for their day-to-day work. Whether you’re an FME user, GIS specialist, or data analyst, if you’re ready to work smarter and more efficiently, this is the course for you.

Do you work in local government, engineering, consulting, or tech? Then you’ll learn how to use tools like the OpenAIChatGPTConnector and the Generative AI Reader to process, analyze, and present data faster. From spatial planning to document analysis and data extraction — you’ll be able to apply these techniques directly to your own projects.

Even if you don’t have AI experience yet, but are familiar with FME (or vice versa), this course is still for you. We guide you step by step, explain everything clearly, and provide a learning environment that lets you grow at your own pace. All you need is curiosity and the drive to explore new technology.

Let’s get started

This course is designed for anyone who works with geodata and wants to explore how generative AI can make processes smarter and faster. Whether you’re an FME user, GIS expert, data analyst — or simply a curious professional — if you’re ready to modernize your workflow, you’re in the right place.

You don’t need to be an expert to get started. A little experience with FME or data processing helps, but isn’t required. What matters most is curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to try something new. We’ll guide you step by step in a supportive, flexible environment.

After this course, you’ll be able to independently apply AI in your FME projects, write prompts that work, and use tools like the OpenAIChatGPTConnector and Generative AI Reader. You’ll know how to use ChatGPT to analyze geodata, automate workflows, and even generate code using plain language — ready to harness the power of AI in your everyday work.
