Position: BGT Administrator

The role of BGT Administrator involves managing and maintaining the BGT maps

What a BGT Administrator Does

As a BGT Administrator, you are the key to an accurate and up-to-date digital map of the Netherlands. Your daily work is crucial, because without you, the Large-Scale Topography Database (BGT) wouldn’t be as reliable as it is today. But what exactly do you do? Let’s take a closer look:

  • Management and maintenance: You ensure that the data in the BGT is always up-to-date. This includes everything from roads and waterways to buildings and green spaces.
  • Performing checks: You have a keen eye for detail and use this to identify and correct errors. You ensure that every square meter of the Netherlands is accurately represented.
  • Data exchange: In your role, you regularly communicate with external parties to exchange data. This ensures seamless coordination between different registries and users.

Your work is not just a matter of entering data. It is a dynamic process in which you work closely with colleagues and external parties to ensure that the BGT provides an accurate and up-to-date picture of the Dutch topography. In addition, you are involved in advising both internal and external BGT users on the optimal use of this data.

You are not just an administrator; you are a guardian of nationally important data. The work you do impacts numerous sectors, from urban planning and development to emergency services and environmental research. Ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the BGT is your primary mission, and every day you contribute to a better, safer, and more efficient Netherlands.

Through your dedication and expertise, the Netherlands remains at the forefront of the world of geoinformation, and you have a direct impact on how we understand and organize our living environment. Your role as a BGT Administrator is therefore indispensable for a well-functioning society.

Why is the work of a BGT Administrator important?

The work of a BGT Administrator is invaluable, and its impact extends far beyond what you might think. The Large-Scale Topography Base Register (BGT) forms the backbone of the Netherlands’ geoinformation infrastructure. Here are a few reasons why your role as a BGT Administrator is so crucial:

  • Accurate planning and development: Urban planners and project developers rely on your data to plan new residential areas, business parks, and infrastructure. Your work makes it possible to develop the Netherlands carefully and efficiently.
  • Safety and emergency response: In emergency situations, such as floods or major accidents, up-to-date and accurate maps are essential for a rapid and effective response. You ensure that emergency services know exactly where they need to go.
  • Environment and sustainability: Your contributions help monitor changes in the landscape, which is essential for environmental protection and planning sustainable projects.

Here are some specific examples of where your work makes a difference:

  • Development of recreational facilities: The accurate maps you help maintain are used to map out hiking, biking, and boating routes.
  • Policy analysis: Whether it’s the energy transition, housing, or agriculture, policymakers use your data to make informed decisions.
  • Planning evacuation routes: In the event of a disaster, up-to-date maps are crucial for planning evacuation routes and ensuring the safety of citizens.

As a BGT Administrator, you therefore play a key role in virtually every aspect of society. From the roads we drive on to the homes we live in, your work touches the lives of everyone in the Netherlands. It ensures that the Netherlands is not only beautiful but also safe, sustainable, and efficiently organized. And that is something to be proud of.

Tasks

As a BGT administrator, you play a crucial role in managing the Large-Scale Topography Database (BGT), the digital map that provides a detailed representation of the Netherlands. Here are your key responsibilities, which together ensure that our geographic data is always accurate and up-to-date:

  • Management and updating: You ensure that the data in the BGT—including roads, waterways, buildings, and green spaces—is always accurate and up-to-date.
  • Quality checks: Regular checks and validations are essential to guarantee the high quality of the BGT data. You perform these to ensure that all information is reliable.
  • Processing changes: Changes to the landscape and infrastructure must be processed quickly and accurately in the BGT. It is your job to implement these updates so that the map continues to provide an accurate representation of reality.
  • Collaboration with other agencies: You will work closely with other organizations and agencies to ensure consistency between the BGT and other basic registries, such as the Basic Registry of Addresses and Buildings (BAG) and the Basic Registry of Topography (BRT).

These tasks are essential for maintaining one of the most crucial tools in our geoinformation infrastructure. Your efforts ensure that everyone—from urban planners to emergency services—can rely on accurate and up-to-date geographic data.

Frequently Asked Questions About the BGT Administrator Position
