QGIS Open data

Total study time: 24 hours

Want to get more out of Open Data with QGIS? In this one-on-one course, you’ll learn how to find, manage, and analyze public datasets using powerful GIS tools. You’ll discover how to visualize, combine, and apply geospatial data for insightful spatial analysis. By working with real-world datasets, you’ll put theory into practice and learn how to integrate Open Data into your GIS workflows right away.

Introduction to QGIS Open Data

Open Data is playing a growing role in making geospatial information more accessible. Governments, research institutes, and organizations are publishing datasets freely, empowering anyone with the right tools to carry out meaningful geographic analysis.

With QGIS—a free and powerful GIS platform—you can load, edit, and visualize a wide range of public datasets, including maps, infrastructure data, and environmental statistics. When used effectively, Open Data can unlock valuable insights and support real-world applications.

To get the most out of these resources, it’s important to recognize trustworthy data sources and apply the right analysis techniques. Processing this data correctly helps you spot patterns, build informative maps, and make smarter decisions.

What will you learn in this blended learning course?

This course gives you a hands-on introduction to working with Open Data in QGIS. You’ll learn how to search for and integrate public datasets, and how to process and visualize them for spatial analysis. Step by step, you’ll gain the skills needed to run your own GIS projects and extract meaningful insights from geospatial data.

Why choose this QGIS Open Data course?

Blended learning gives you the best of both worlds—live interaction and flexible, self-paced study—so you can build practical, job-ready QGIS skills using Open Data.

We kick off with a live session where you dive straight into QGIS. Guided by experts, you’ll explore Open Data sources, load datasets, and start visualizing patterns right away.

Next, in the self-paced modules, you’ll expand your skills at your own pace. You’ll learn how to locate reliable datasets, process both vector and raster data, and perform essential spatial analyses. Along the way, you’ll combine data types and create clear, visually engaging maps.

Then, in a second live session, you’ll put everything into practice with a real-world challenge. You’ll refine your results, solve common data issues, and receive feedback to improve your workflow.

A key highlight of this course is its practical focus. You’ll create real outputs—like styled maps and analysis-ready visuals—that you can use in reports, projects, or planning processes.

By combining expert support with real experience, this course prepares you to go beyond theory. By the end, you’ll confidently apply Open Data in QGIS to drive smarter, data-informed decisions.
